Archer is an aerospace company building all-electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft for sustainable air mobility. The Flight Test Instrumentation Manufacturing Engineer will lead the manufacturing, installation planning, and integration of flight test instrumentation systems on experimental and production aircraft.
Key responsibilities include conducting manufacturing and installation planning for flight test instrumentation hardware; leading the build and assembly integration process for the aircraft's flight test instrumentation system; supporting developmental test and certification efforts for Archer's piloted eVTOL aircraft; and collaborating with design engineering to develop installation and assembly plans.
The role involves working with internal customers and vendors to solve instrumentation and measurement challenges, making make/buy decisions for flight test hardware and harnesses, and serving as a key advisor to the Instrumentation Director on build status, assembly challenges, and parts availability. You will develop processes and documentation for procurement, installation, and checkout of flight test instrumentation and ancillary hardware.
Collaboration is central to the position: you'll work with the New Product Integration Team, Manufacturing Engineering, Suppliers, and Design Engineering to plan and perform test installation and modification activities. You'll establish comprehensive instrumentation plans with all engineering design and analysis teams, assist in designing instrumentation wiring and integration details, and help design hardware such as instrumentation racks, air data booms, aircrew interfaces, workstations, camera systems, and telemetry systems.
The role includes hands-on instrumentation installation and assembly work with support from an instrumentation technician team, with accountability for completing activities on time and within budget. Requires a Bachelor's degree in Engineering and minimum 3 years of experience as an Aircraft Maintenance Lead, Manufacturing Engineer, or related role involving testing, troubleshooting, maintenance and repair of aircraft or prototype hardware using planning software and configuration management processes.
