In this Flight Test Engineer role, you will support the full lifecycle of flight test operations for next-generation aerospace platforms. Your responsibilities include assisting in the preparation of Development, Company, and FAA Certification ground and flight test plans; contributing to test card preparation; and interfacing with engineers, maintainers, technicians, and program management to accomplish test objectives safely and efficiently.
You will contribute to the production of Company and Certification reports, prepare materials for test readiness reviews, and provide direct support during test events as a flight test engineer and/or test conductor both on-board the aircraft and in the control room. You will participate in flight briefs and debriefs, flight line setup activities, and report test results to the Flight Test and Engineering teams. A critical part of the role involves participating in all aspects of the Flight Test Safety Risk Management process, preparing test operating limitations and advisories in collaboration with engineering disciplines, and attending safety review board (SRB) meetings.
This is a hands-on position requiring both technical depth and collaborative problem-solving in a fast-moving aerospace environment. You will work at the intersection of engineering, certification, and flight operations.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution
- Willingness to travel 25% of the time within 100 miles of the SF Bay Area
- Collaborative attitude with meticulous attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency with data analysis tools (e.g., MATLAB, Python)
- Ability to obtain and maintain an FAA Class 3 medical certificate issued through an FAA-designated Aviation Medical Examiner (AME)
BONUS QUALIFICATIONS:
- FAA pilot certificate
- Hands-on experience with test assets in a lab or other environment
