Salary: USD 95,000 - 120,000 / annual
Rocket Lab is seeking a Flight Software Engineer II to support the development of flight software for Space Systems programs based in Littleton, CO. You will participate in all aspects of software design and development, from requirements definition through coding and testing. Your software will be deployed to orbit within weeks to months, with frequent opportunities to test and operate on-orbit thanks to Rocket Lab's own rockets and launch sites.
Key responsibilities include:
- Develop application software for Real Time Operating Systems (RTOS) and embedded Linux environments
- Develop hardware drivers for spacecraft sensors and actuators including Inertial Measurement Units (IMUs), Star Trackers, and Reaction Wheels
- Develop and maintain comprehensive unit tests within a Continuous Integration framework
- Collaborate with hardware-in-the-loop test engineers to verify combined software and hardware functionality
- Work with systems engineers and embedded systems engineers on requirements development, documentation, and validation
- Participate in source code reviews to ensure compliance with company coding standards
- Participate in design reviews (PDR, CDR)
- Assist with on-orbit and interplanetary flight operations
Rocket Lab's Space Systems team has enabled over 1,700 missions including interplanetary exploration, in-space manufacturing, and national security initiatives, with spacecraft and components for missions to the Moon and Mars in partnership with NASA, the Space Development Agency, and the U.S. Space Force.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, or equivalent technical degree
- 2+ years of demonstrated applicable experience in embedded software development
- Proficiency in C and C++ languages
- Experience with Real Time Operating Systems (RTOS) or embedded Linux
- Active Secret security clearance OR ability to obtain and maintain one
- U.S. citizenship required due to program requirements and ITAR regulations
NICE-TO-HAVE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Active TS/SCI security clearance
- Rust programming language experience
- Advanced degree
- Experience developing software and drivers with CAN/CAN-FD and/or UDP/TCP in embedded systems
- Experience developing software for autonomous vehicles in harsh environments (satellites, autonomous vehicles)
