Salary: USD 131,000 - 184,000 / annual

Varda Space Industries is building commercial space infrastructure, including in-orbit pharmaceutical processing systems, reentry capsules, and satellite buses. The Flight Software team is responsible for all phases of spacecraft software development—from requirements capture through testing and flight operations. In this role, you will develop reliable, safety-critical flight software in C++ that determines how Varda's spacecraft, satellite bus, and reentry capsule operate throughout their missions. You'll own all aspects of software development, including design, testing, integration, and verification & validation (V&V). You'll scope projects, capture requirements, perform design trades for open-ended problems, and collaborate with a team of aerospace veterans from SpaceX, Blue Origin, and major pharmaceutical companies. Key responsibilities include: - Developing bare metal, RTOS, or Linux-based embedded software in C++ - Owning the full software development lifecycle from design through integration - Ensuring system quality and performance through rigorous testing and V&V - Communicating and problem-solving in a collaborative environment You'll need a bachelor's degree in computer science, math, physics, engineering, or equivalent technical experience, plus 3+ years developing spacecraft or safety-critical software. Strong C++ expertise is essential. Preferred qualifications include end-to-end spacecraft build/launch experience, real-time embedded systems development, aerospace safety-critical software experience, CCSDS telemetry/telecommand knowledge, F' or cFS framework familiarity, Python or Rust, analog/digital electronics knowledge, and experience with SPI, I2C, CAN, or EtherCAT protocols. Varda is headquartered in El Segundo with additional offices in Washington, DC and Huntsville, AL. This is an on-site role in El Segundo.
