Salary: USD 130,000 - 175,000 / annual

Astranis builds advanced satellites for high orbits, serving large enterprises, sovereign governments, and the US military. The company operates five satellites on orbit with a backlog exceeding $1 billion in commercial contracts. With over $750 million in funding from top-tier investors and a team of 450 engineers, Astranis designs, builds, and operates satellites from its 153,000 sq. ft. headquarters in Northern California. As a Flight Software Engineer, you will develop, execute, and implement flight software that commands and monitors spacecraft. Your responsibilities include implementing spacecraft avionics software, ground control and telemetry software, and automated testing frameworks at component, functional, and system levels (including Hardware-in-the-Loop testing). You will implement low-level software to interface with various spacecraft components, work with real-time operating system components, and collaborate with hardware teams to ensure software-hardware integration. The role also includes supporting team growth through recruiting, interviewing, and hiring additional engineers as the team expands rapidly. Required qualifications include a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent background knowledge. You must have hands-on experience with C and/or C++, Linux, and shell command-line tools, with a passion for building things in fast-paced environments. Bonus experience includes real-time systems design, bare-metal embedded systems, reading schematics and datasheets, circuit debugging (debugger, logic analyzer, oscilloscope), web development frameworks and databases, and test framework development for HITL systems. Compensation includes base salary of $130,000–$175,000 USD, significant equity via stock options, company-subsidized healthcare, disability and life insurance, 401(k) retirement planning, flexible PTO, and on-site catered meals. U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residency, or refugee/asylee status is required to comply with space technology export regulations.
