Salary: USD 100,000 - 125,000 / annual
Rocket Lab is seeking a Flight Analysis Engineer I/II to join the Global Launch Services Mission Formulation Team based in the Denver, CO office. This role is responsible for trajectory simulation, modeling, analyses, and testing for Rocket Lab launches and missions, with a focus on ensuring safety and supporting mission design and operations for the Electron and HASTE launch vehicles.
You will contribute to flight safety analyses, mission design, and operations support while interfacing with other departments within Rocket Lab and external agencies. The scope includes developing methods, software tools, data packages, and technical reports for flight safety, launch availability, and operations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Launch and mission operational concept development
- Orbital and suborbital trajectory design and analysis
- Requirements engineering with external stakeholders and customers
- Hardware-in-the-loop (HITL) testing to verify trajectory and flight safety system configuration
- Monte Carlo simulation analyses to define and verify launch and mission operations
- Flight safety analyses prior to launch and day-of-launch support
- Development of bespoke mission safety rules
- Verification of Autonomous Flight Termination System (AFTS) hardware and software readiness
- Tool and process development for automating modeling and analysis tasks
- Direct engagement with Business Development on proposals and mission definition
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering (Aerospace, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering)
- Experience with numerical modeling and simulation, probability and statistics, multi-physics, or similar analysis fields
- Experience with data analysis using Python, SciPy, or similar tools
- Experience developing with Linux
- Fundamental knowledge of atmospheric flight, flight dynamics, and/or orbital mechanics
- Experience with Git version control (git, GitHub, GitLab)
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD US Government Secret security clearance
- Must be a US citizen, lawful permanent resident, or eligible to obtain required ITAR authorizations
Nice to have:
- Active TS/SCI clearance
- Advanced degree in engineering (Aerospace, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering)
- Experience with C/C++
- Experience with mission analysis, trajectory optimization, vehicle design, and simulation tools
- Experience with RF simulation, modeling, and link budget analysis
- Strong communication skills and ability to build working relationships
