Focused Energy is building the future of clean energy through laser-driven inertial fusion, backed by a $240M Series A—the largest fully secured Series A in the global fusion industry. The company operates across Germany and the US, bringing together top scientific and engineering talent to unlock fusion power at commercial scale.
As Fixed Asset Manager, you will build the fixed asset function from the ground up, creating processes, controls, and documentation that keep the asset base accurate, audit-ready, and scalable. Currently, there is no single owner of fixed asset judgment across entities, so you will set the standards and become the go-to expert for the entire company. You will report directly to the Director of Operational Finance and partner closely with Accounting, Procurement, and operations teams at company sites.
Key responsibilities include:
- Own the annual fixed asset inventory: plan and run year-end physical inventory and reconcile results to the asset register
- Structure the asset register: define clear data standards and maintain an accurate, reconciled register across all entities
- Define the capitalization lifecycle: set up documented processes from construction in progress (CIP) to asset activation, including capitalization decisions, depreciation tables, impairment, and disposals
- Manage public funding bookings: establish booking logic for subsidized assets, including treatment of grants and related depreciation and reporting requirements
- Automate the purchase-to-asset process: work with Procurement to design a documented, automated flow from purchase order to capitalized asset in NetSuite and NetAssets
- Build procedures and enable the team: document policies and work instructions for reliable process execution and hand over clear procedures to the emerging team
- Partner across the business: work with project, construction, and site teams to obtain timely, reliable information on assets under construction and assets placed into service
- Support audit readiness: prepare reconciliations and supporting documentation, and act as the day-to-day contact for external auditors on fixed asset matters
The company offers a competitive salary, stock options, 30 days vacation per year, private pension plan contributions (20% top-up), state-of-the-art equipment, flexible commuting support via NAVIT, fitness access through Wellhub, and regular team events.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Solid experience in fixed asset accounting, including capitalization, construction in progress, depreciation methods and lifetime tables, impairment, and disposals
- Experience with public funding, grants, or subsidy booking
- Hands-on experience with year-end physical inventories, asset reconciliations, and working with external auditors
- Process improvement and documentation mindset, with openness to using automation and AI tools
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with ability to build structure in a developing environment
- Clear communication skills in English and German
- Comfort working cross-functionally with engineering, operations, and procurement colleagues
NICE TO HAVE:
- Working knowledge of NetSuite and/or NetAssets, with interest in improving systems and processes
- Experience in manufacturing, energy, or capital-intensive industry with significant assets under construction
- Experience setting up a function from scratch or documenting processes for a growing team
