Nusano, a physics-focused company commercializing radioisotope production, stable isotope enrichment, and advanced separation technologies, seeks a Controller to lead its accounting function. Based in West Valley City, Utah, the Controller reports to the Head of Finance and will initially manage two direct reports with a mandate to grow the department as the company scales.
The role is both strategic and hands-on, operating in a lean, highly regulated, high-technology manufacturing environment. You will design and operate the accounting function end-to-end, with accountability for accurate, timely, and compliant financial reporting across all entities, product lines, and jurisdictions. Core responsibilities include overseeing General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, Treasury, cash management, and manufacturing cost accounting while ensuring strong internal controls and segregation of duties.
You will lead the financial close and reporting process (month-end and year-end), prepare three-statement financials and balance sheet reconciliations, and conduct variance analysis for management review. The role requires deep engagement with regulatory compliance (NRC, DOE, EPA, OSHA, DOT, IATA, REACH, TSCA) and serving as the primary accounting lead for external audits, inspections, regulatory reviews, and transaction-related due diligence.
You will establish and maintain accounting policies, technical accounting positions, and internal control frameworks aligned with GAAP, SOX, and industry best practices. Working with outside ERP consultants, you will design, build, and enhance ERP and financial systems to support scalability, data integrity, intercompany processes, accurate consolidation, and operational efficiency across production, inventory, payroll, and compliance systems.
Additional responsibilities include preparing financial reporting for treasury, banking, and financing activities (cash forecasting, liquidity management, covenant compliance); supporting equity accounting (including Carta and stock-based compensation), governance, and board/investor reporting; and providing senior accounting leadership across the organization in partnership with FP&A, legal, HR, operations, and R&D.

- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience in high-growth, complex organizations with multiple lines of business
- Experience serving as primary accounting lead for external audits, managing auditor relationships and issue resolution
- Proven ability to build, structure, and mature accounting functions (AP, AR, Payroll, close processes) in evolving organizations
- Experience designing, implementing, and improving ERP and financial systems with emphasis on scalability, data integrity, and efficiency
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP, including ASC 606, ASC 360, ASC 842, and ASC 718
- Experience in regulated, government-adjacent, capital-intensive, and operationally complex environments preferred
- Demonstrated ability to operate with significant autonomy, sound judgment, and accountability in complex accounting and regulatory situations
- Demonstrated experience leading accounting functions and supervising operational accounting teams
