Supabase is a Postgres development platform providing a complete backend solution including Database, Auth, Storage, Edge Functions, Realtime, and Vector Search. We're seeking a FinOps Engineer to drive cost optimization and cloud financial governance across our AWS and GCP infrastructure.
This is a hands-on engineering role focused on identifying and shipping cost savings, building tooling for cloud efficiency, and fostering cost awareness across engineering teams. You'll work cross-functionally with Engineering, Finance, and Product teams, translating between technical and business stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze billing, usage, and cost trends across AWS and GCP to identify optimization opportunities (rightsizing, storage lifecycle policies, data transfer, spot/auto-scaling), and implement solutions end-to-end rather than just recommending changes.
- Build and maintain cost attribution systems including tagging policies, cost allocation, and chargeback/showback mechanisms so engineering teams can own their spend.
- Automate cost governance through automated reporting, anomaly detection, and alerting using Python, Terraform, Lambda, or Bash.
- Partner with engineering teams on architecture decisions to incorporate cost considerations early in design.
- Support Finance on forecasting, reporting, and dashboard creation for budget tracking and financial KPIs.
- Communicate cost analysis clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Requirements:
- Strong AWS expertise and working GCP knowledge, including pricing models, billing structures, and cost optimization mechanics.
- Automation and scripting skills: Python, Terraform/Pulumi, Lambda, or Bash.
- Comfort with cost/billing tooling: AWS Cost Explorer, Cost & Usage Reports, GCP Billing Reports, and BI/dashboarding (Hex).
- Experience with Linear and Notion, or willingness to learn them as systems of record.
- Ability to analyze cost data and present clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Prior experience in a FinOps, cloud cost management, or cloud governance role preferred.
- Experience with dedicated cloud cost management platforms (CloudZero, Vantage, or similar) is a plus.
- Energized by high-leverage, unglamorous work and cross-functional collaboration without positional authority.
