Smalls is a premium direct-to-consumer cat food and lifestyle brand offering fresh, human-grade products. The company is seeking a Financial Analyst to serve as an individual contributor at the intersection of finance and operations, supporting the Strategic Finance Manager with financial analysis, reporting, and cross-functional business partnering.
In this role, you will own core components of the budgeting and in-year re-forecasting cycle end-to-end, including data gathering, financial modeling, and variance analysis. You'll support financial close by producing source materials and coordinating accurate, timely accruals with cross-functional partners. A key responsibility is building out automated reporting and FP&A processes that enable a lean finance team to operate efficiently, leveraging AI tools and FP&A software.
This is a tactical, methodical role focused on the mechanics of forecasting and reporting rather than high-level strategy. You'll work closely with Operations and other functions to translate business strategy into financial projections and insights that leadership can trust. The role has a clear growth path to Senior Analyst for someone who wants FP&A to inform operational and strategic decisions in real time.
The company emphasizes a data-driven culture balanced with pragmatism, a people-first approach, and a fully remote team spread across the US with periodic in-person department and company off-sites.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field
- 2–4 years of experience in financial analysis, FP&A, accounting, or related analytical role
- Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills; ability to build forecasts and variance analyses from scratch
- Solid grasp of the three financial statements and their operational drivers; ability to connect operational KPIs to financial line items
- Strong communication skills; ability to explain variances to non-finance stakeholders and collaborate effectively across financial backgrounds
NICE-TO-HAVE:
- Familiarity with AI tools (Claude Code, Codex) and experience automating finance workflows
- BI tools (Power BI, Tableau, Looker) and/or planning tools (Vena, Pigment, Data Rails, Cube)
- ERP exposure, particularly NetSuite; auditing experience preferred over implementation experience
- Consumer, CPG, or DTC industry background
