Xero is seeking a Financial Accountant to support its Group Accounting team in delivering quality financial information and driving continuous improvement. Based in Wellington, New Zealand, you'll be a key contributor to Xero's month-end close process and financial reporting requirements as a listed issuer.
In this role, you will develop expertise across the full accounting cycle, taking ownership of process improvements and leveraging emerging tools to reduce manual effort. Your responsibilities will include balance sheet reconciliations, technical accounting support, month-end close activities, half-year and annual reporting cycles, audit support, and external disclosures. You'll work on implementing AI tools and emerging technologies to streamline workflows and improve financial data quality. Your work will support Xero's external disclosures, employee equity schemes, and strategic financial projects.
You'll join a collaborative Group Accounting team that works closely with Finance, Tax, Treasury, and FP&A functions across Xero worldwide. The team values professional scepticism, creative problem-solving, and genuine partnership, with regular connection points both in-person and virtually. The role is based in Wellington with flexibility in how you work—office space is available and the team balances focused work time with collaborative moments.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
- Strong technical accounting knowledge with a Chartered Accountant qualification (or on your way to one)
- Demonstrated eye for process improvement and genuine enthusiasm for finding efficiencies
- Excellent attention to detail with ability to analyse financial results, spot trends, and communicate findings with clarity
- Comfort working in a fast-paced environment where priorities evolve
- Strong collaboration skills and commitment to building relationships across finance and the wider business
- Curiosity about emerging tools like AI; willingness to explore practical applications while maintaining sound judgment and appropriate validation
