Opendoor is seeking a Finance Systems & Automation Specialist to build AI automations that simplify accounting operations, reduce repetitive work, and accelerate the book-close process. You will work directly with accounting teammates to uncover manual processes, prioritize improvements, and build AI agents, reusable skills, and automated workflows that drive real adoption. You'll own improvements end-to-end—from discovery through testing, rollout, adoption, and ongoing support—across systems including NetSuite, Ramp, Numeric, Snowflake, and GitHub.
Key responsibilities include:
- Identifying manual steps, bottlenecks, and duplicate work in accounting processes, including opportunities not yet formalized as requests
- Prioritizing automation opportunities based on business value, effort, and improvements in accuracy and reliability
- Building and maintaining AI agents, reusable skills, and workflows for recurring accounting tasks
- Creating automations for journal-entry preparation, data validation, exception identification, reconciliation, and reporting
- Designing connected workflows and improving data movement between systems using integrations, APIs, scripts, or automation tools
- Testing solutions, evaluating AI outputs, and building exception handling and human review into workflows
- Partnering with accounting, IT, and system owners to validate changes and obtain approvals before release
- Documenting solutions, supporting team adoption, and enabling ongoing use and improvement
- Measuring results through time saved, reduced manual steps, accuracy, and reliability improvements
- Supporting administration and troubleshooting of accounting systems as needed
This role prioritizes practical AI building and systems thinking. You should be able to explain something you deployed in a business environment, how you validated its outputs, and what you improved after launch. Specialized accounting knowledge and experience with specific platforms are not required; curiosity and willingness to learn unfamiliar systems and business processes are essential.
The role is based in-person four days per week at one of Opendoor's offices. Opendoor is building the modern system of homeownership, giving people the freedom to buy and sell on their own terms through an end-to-end online experience.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Demonstrated experience building and deploying useful AI agents, reusable skills, or automations in a business environment, with clear examples of personal contribution
- Practical understanding of AI workflow design, tool use, and output evaluation—including examples of mistakes caught and corrected
- Systems thinking: ability to explain how data and software components connect, anticipate failure points, and design workflows that expand without becoming brittle or isolated
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to learn unfamiliar processes and carry improvements from discovery through adoption and ongoing support
- Clear communication and effective cross-functional collaboration, including explaining tradeoffs and asking for help or review when needed
BONUS QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with NetSuite, Ramp, Numeric, Rippling, or other business systems
- Exposure to finance or accounting processes, ERP integrations, sensitive business data, or audit requirements
- Hands-on experience with APIs, integration platforms, SQL, Python, or JavaScript (specific tools and languages can be learned in the role)
- Experience with advanced AI frameworks, context engineering, or monitoring deployed workflows at scale
