Daybreak Health is seeking a Finance Analyst to sit at the center of the finance function, balancing accounting and financial planning responsibilities. You will report to the Sr. Director of Finance and work on both the accounting side—owning the month-end close process and ensuring accurate, timely financial reporting for leadership, the board, and investors—and the planning side, building and maintaining financial models that drive forecasting, budgeting, and investment decisions. Daybreak's business model presents unique analytical challenges: revenue comes from school district contracts and insurance reimbursement, while the largest cost driver is clinician compensation. This requires sophisticated accounting (accruals, revenue recognition) and modeling (clinician capacity, utilization, payer mix, contract economics). Key responsibilities include: **Financial Modeling & Forecasting:** Build and maintain core operating models linking revenue, clinician cost, and margin to the three financial statements. Develop driver-based revenue and margin models capturing contract pricing, clinician capacity and utilization, payer mix, and state-level economics. Own the annual budget and rolling forecast process. Run scenario and sensitivity analyses. Model new districts, markets, payer contracts, and major investments with cost-benefit and ROI analysis. Support board and investor reporting with auditable, well-documented model outputs. **Month-End Close:** Run the close process end-to-end, maintaining the close calendar and checklist. Prepare journal entries (accruals, prepaids, deferrals, depreciation, amortization, recurring and adjusting entries). Prepare month-end accruals for clinician compensation, payroll-related costs, and vendor expenses. Reconcile bank, credit card, payroll, and clearing accounts. Tie subledgers and operational systems (billing, claims, payroll, expense tools) to the general ledger. Produce monthly financial statements and close packages with clear written explanations. Continuously improve the close through documentation, control tightening, and automation. **Revenue & Receivables Accounting:** Support revenue recognition across district contracts and insurance reimbursement, including contractual adjustments, collectability estimates, and deferred revenue. Track AR and aging. Reconcile billing-system balances to the GL. Partner with Revenue Cycle and Operations to resolve discrepancies. **Analysis & Business Partnering:** Perform monthly budget-to-actual and variance analysis. Partner with Clinical, Operations, Revenue Cycle, and Go-to-Market leaders to understand revenue, cost, and margin drivers. Analyze unit economics by state, contract, and payer. Build and maintain recurring reports and KPI tracking. Use BI tools and AI-assisted analysis alongside Excel. **Audit, Tax & Compliance:** Prepare schedules and support for annual audits, tax filings, and diligence requests. Maintain clear documentation and audit trails. Help develop accounting policies and internal controls. This role suits someone who wants both sides of finance: an accountant ready to grow into modeling and FP&A, or an analyst with strong modeling skills and solid accounting foundation. **Requirements:** - Bachelor's degree in accounting, or degree in finance or related field with substantial accounting coursework. Candidates without an accounting degree must have significant hands-on accounting experience. - 2–4 years of accounting or finance experience, including hands-on responsibility for month-end close activities and exposure to budgeting, forecasting, or financial planning. - Demonstrated financial modeling experience: built or significantly maintained models such as operating model, budget, forecast, or driver-based revenue model, and can explain how they work. - Strong working knowledge of US GAAP and accrual accounting, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and flux analysis. - Advanced Excel or Google Sheets skills, including lookups, conditional aggregation, and well-structured, auditable models. - Hands-on experience with modern GL/accounting system (QuickBooks, NetSuite, or similar). - Curiosity about the business and comfort partnering with non-finance stakeholders, with clear written and verbal communication. - Organized, detail-oriented, able to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities independently in remote setting. **Nice to Have:** - CPA or CPA candidacy - FP&A, strategic finance, or business partnering experience at startup or high-growth company - Healthcare, health tech, revenue cycle, insurance billing, or K-12 contract experience - Revenue recognition (ASC 606) and AR experience for variable or third-party payer revenue - Planning tools (Adaptive) and dashboarding/BI tools experience - Comfort using AI tools for analysis - Audit, tax filing, or investor reporting support experience
