Anduril Industries is seeking a Field Test Engineer to join its subsea robotics team in Quonset, Rhode Island. This role is central to the design, integration, and testing of autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) in real-world maritime environments. You will lead hands-on field operations for multiple AUV platforms, taking primary responsibility for troubleshooting, repair, operation, and maintenance. Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting pre-mission testing, launch and recovery operations, vehicle tasking, and comprehensive data analysis. You will deploy locally from support vessels to conduct at-sea AUV operations, typically supporting multiple nearshore sea test days per week from the Quonset base. Key responsibilities include writing and executing detailed test plans during sea trials, coordinating test execution with third-party vendors and logistics partners, and authoring daily operational reports documenting step-by-step execution of internal and customer-facing evaluation efforts. You will contribute to design improvements by conducting routine design reviews focused on operability and user experience, and support software UI design and user documentation for AUV systems. You will also contribute to next-generation platform development, identifying improvement areas and leading test and evaluation efforts for new technology rollouts. Travel to support customer-facing operations is expected up to 25% of the time. Required qualifications include 3+ years operating robotic systems at-sea in commercial or research offshore environments, experience leading on-deck operations with ship-based cranes or AUV launch/recovery systems, proficiency with Linux and command-line interfaces, electronics troubleshooting skills, and demonstrated knowledge of subsea operational procedures. You must be able to lift 50 lbs, maintain daily office presence in Quonset when not deployed, and be eligible for a U.S. Secret security clearance. Preferred qualifications include software development experience, familiarity with subsea acoustic sensors and underwater navigation systems, ability to read engineering drawings, and knowledge of offshore HSE policies.
