Anduril Industries is seeking a Field Test Engineer to join its subsea robotics team in Quonset, Rhode Island. This role is central to the design, integration, and testing of autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) in real-world maritime environments. You will lead hands-on field operations and troubleshooting of AUV systems, taking principal responsibility for vehicle maintenance, repair, and operation. Day-to-day duties include conducting pre-mission testing, managing launch and recovery operations, vehicle tasking, and comprehensive data analysis. You'll deploy on support vessels to conduct at-sea AUV operations, write and execute detailed test plans, and coordinate with third-party vendors and logistics partners. A key part of the role involves authoring detailed operational test reports documenting both internal and customer-facing evaluation efforts. You'll also contribute to product improvement by supporting software UI design, creating user documentation (operation guides, mission planning materials), and conducting design reviews to enhance operability and reduce the learning curve for field operators. As the team develops next-generation AUV capabilities, you'll identify improvement areas and lead evaluation efforts for new technology rollouts. Local operations in Quonset include supporting multiple nearshore sea test days per week. Travel to support customer-facing operations is expected up to 25% of the time. Required: 5+ years operating robotic systems at-sea in commercial or research offshore environments; experience leading on-deck operations with ship-based cranes, A-frames, or dedicated AUV launch/recovery systems; Linux and command-line proficiency; electronics troubleshooting and test equipment knowledge; Microsoft Excel; subsea operational procedures expertise; excellent communication skills; ability to lift 50 lbs; daily in-office presence in Quonset when not deployed; eligibility for U.S. Secret security clearance. Preferred: software development experience; subsea acoustic sensors, underwater navigation, and communication systems integration; ability to read engineering drawings; offshore HSE knowledge.
