Anduril Industries is seeking a Field Test Engineer to join its subsea robotics team in Quincy, Massachusetts. This role is central to the design, integration, and testing of autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) in real-world maritime environments.
You will take on hands-on responsibility for troubleshooting, repair, operation, and maintenance of AUVs in the field. Day-to-day duties include leading local operations for multiple AUV platforms, conducting pre-mission testing, launch and recovery procedures, vehicle tasking, and data analysis. You will write, review, and execute comprehensive test plans during sea testing and coordinate execution with third-party vendors, partners, and logistics companies.
A significant portion of your work involves authoring detailed operational test reports documenting step-by-step execution of internal and customer-facing evaluation efforts. You will also support software UI design for AUV systems, generate user documentation covering all aspects of AUV operations (user guides, mission planning guides), and conduct design reviews to improve operability and reduce the learning curve for at-sea operations.
You will contribute to next-generation designs and features for the ANDURIL-LD platform, identifying improvement areas and leading test and evaluation efforts for new technology rollouts. Local operations in Quincy, MA will include supporting multiple nearshore sea test days per week. Approximately 50% of your time will involve travel to support customer-facing operations globally.
Required qualifications include 5+ years of experience operating robotic systems at-sea in commercial or research offshore environments, experience leading on-deck operations using ship-based cranes or dedicated AUV launch/recovery systems, proficiency with Linux and command-line interfaces, knowledge of electronics troubleshooting and test equipment, and demonstrated subsea operational expertise. You must be eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. Top Secret security clearance, able to lift up to 50 lbs, and available to deploy up to 50% of the time.
