Anduril Industries is seeking a Field Test Engineer to join its subsea robotics team in Quincy, Massachusetts. This role is central to the design, integration, and testing of autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) in real-world maritime environments.
You will take on hands-on responsibility for troubleshooting, repair, operation, and maintenance of AUVs in the field. Day-to-day duties include leading local operations for multiple AUV platforms, conducting pre-mission testing, launch and recovery procedures, vehicle tasking, and data analysis. You will write, review, and execute comprehensive test plans during sea testing, coordinate with third-party vendors and logistics partners, and author detailed operational reports documenting test execution and results.
A significant portion of your work involves supporting software UI design for AUV systems and generating user documentation covering operation guides, mission planning, and best practices. You will conduct design reviews focused on improving operability and reducing the learning curve for at-sea operations, and contribute to next-generation platform designs by identifying improvement areas and leading evaluation efforts for new technology rollouts.
The role is based in Quincy with daily office presence when not deployed. You will lead local AUV operations including multiple nearshore sea test days per week, and travel to support customer-facing operations approximately 50% of the time. This is a dynamic, collaborative environment where you'll work alongside multidisciplinary engineers and specialists.
Required qualifications include 3+ years operating robotic systems at-sea in commercial or research offshore environments, experience leading on-deck operations with ship-based cranes and AUV launch/recovery systems, proficiency with Linux and command-line interfaces, electronics troubleshooting skills, and demonstrated knowledge of subsea operational procedures. You must be able to lift 50 lbs, obtain a Top Secret security clearance, and deploy up to 50% of the time. Preferred experience includes software development, subsea sensor integration, and offshore HSE knowledge.
