Anduril Industries is seeking a Field Test Engineer to join its Maritime operations team in Quincy, Massachusetts. This role is central to advancing autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) and subsea systems through hands-on field testing and validation. You will work at the intersection of engineering design and real-world ocean operations, planning and executing at-sea test events for cutting-edge maritime platforms.
Key responsibilities include leading day-to-day field operations for multiple AUVs and subsea platforms, including pre-mission testing, launch and recovery, vehicle tasking, and data analysis. You will troubleshoot, repair, and maintain AUVs and subsea systems in demanding offshore conditions, often far from the lab. The role requires writing and executing detailed test plans, coordinating with third-party vendors and logistics partners, and authoring comprehensive operational test reports documenting internal and customer-facing evaluation efforts.
You will support software UI design feedback, contribute to user documentation for AUV operations, and participate in design reviews focused on improving operability. The position involves identifying areas for improvement in maritime products and leading test efforts for new technology rollouts. Approximately 50% travel is expected, including domestic and international deployments on support vessels.
Required qualifications include 5+ years operating robotic systems at-sea in commercial or research offshore environments, hands-on experience with ship-based launch and recovery systems, and demonstrated subsea operational expertise. You must be proficient with Linux and command-line interfaces, electronics troubleshooting, and test equipment. Strong organizational skills, excellent communication, and the ability to obtain a U.S. Top Secret Security Clearance are essential. Physical requirements include lifting up to 50 lbs and deploying up to 50% of the time.
Preferred qualifications include software development experience, subsea sensor and navigation system integration knowledge, ability to read engineering drawings, and familiarity with offshore HSE policies.
