Skyways designs and operates fully autonomous long-range cargo aircraft. The company has developed hybrid-electric aircraft that take off like helicopters and cruise like planes, enabling long-range autonomous delivery without traditional runway infrastructure. Aircraft currently operate across three continents under FAA oversight and in support of U.S. military operations.
As a Field Service Representative, you will be Skyways' on-site representative at customer locations, responsible for deploying aircraft, maintaining them, and ensuring mission readiness. You will be the primary point of contact for customers and the person who keeps their aircraft flying.
Key responsibilities include:
- Deploy to customer sites and maintain aircraft availability at 95%+ readiness
- Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on multi-fuel power systems, batteries, motors, ESCs, and consumables per maintenance manuals
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, RF/datalink, and firmware issues in the field and resolve them on-site when possible
- Escalate complex issues to MRO and Engineering with detailed context and drive resolution
- Meet service commitments by acknowledging issues quickly and prioritizing aircraft-down situations
- Maintain accurate daily logbooks, maintenance records, and per-aircraft configuration control
- Stand up new customer sites including setup, systems installation, functional checks, radio/datalink validation, and handover
- Manage on-site spare parts inventory and aircraft-on-ground response
- Provide field feedback to Engineering to prevent recurring issues
- Serve as the trusted technical contact for customers
You will spend most days on the road, often internationally, running customer sites with limited backup. Some days will be at the Austin shop or flight test site. This is a hands-on role requiring high trust and self-direction.
Requirements:
- 3+ years maintaining and supporting real aircraft or UAS in the field (Group 3 UAS or similar preferred)
- Strong mechanical foundation plus electrical, RF/datalink, and basic software/firmware troubleshooting skills
- Comfort with small internal-combustion or multi-fuel engines
- Ability to read and use technical manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams
- Ability to run a remote site solo: safety-minded, self-directed, and calm under pressure
- Willingness to travel up to ~75%, including extended international trips on short notice
- Valid U.S. passport and driver's license
- Ability to lift ~50 lbs and work outdoors in mission conditions
- Disciplined documentation practices
- Proficiency with Slack, Asana, Airtable, and Google Workspace
- Ability to obtain customer- or contract-required security clearances
- U.S. citizenship, permanent residency, or authorization under export control regulations
Bonus qualifications:
- FAA Part 107 and/or BVLOS operations experience
- A&P license or equivalent airframe/powerplant background
- Prior military UAS, aviation maintenance, or operations experience (15-series MOS, AV/AT/AE, TACP, or SOF aviation)
- OCONUS or deployed field experience
- Autopilot, ground-control-station software, RF/datalink systems (PX4 or ArduPilot), and Linux experience
- Familiarity with spares, RMA, and field-logistics workflows
- Prior OEM field-service or customer-facing technical-support experience
- Experience operating under FAA, SORA, or similar standards
- Additional language ability for international deployments
