GitLab is seeking a Field CTO for Public Sector to serve as a trusted technical advisor for public sector customers and prospects. This is an individual contributor, customer-facing technical advisory role with no direct people management responsibilities.
You will combine technical depth with executive communication, building relationships with Chief Information Security Officers, Chief Security Officers, Chief Technology Officers, and chief security architects. You will partner across GitLab with sales, marketing, and product teams to help customers connect DevSecOps strategy, security, and compliance goals to real business and mission outcomes.
Key responsibilities include:
- Engage with customers in a technical consulting and advisory role during the pre-sales process, providing technical assistance and strategic guidance
- Deliver executive-level thought leadership on DevSecOps, security, and compliance for strategic public sector opportunities
- Build and maintain relationships with customer leaders across multiple organizational levels
- Partner with the marketing team to develop content and support media engagement opportunities
- Educate customers on the value of the GitLab platform and support deployment conversations
- Assist with requests for information and responses related to government publications and public-private partnership opportunities
- Participate in working groups connected to government publications, standards, and demonstrations
- Curate and communicate public sector field feedback, collaborate on prioritization with marketing and product teams, and contribute to sales strategy and enablement
Your perspective from the field will help shape customer conversations, influence go-to-market strategy, and inform how GitLab continues to serve public sector organizations. This role operates at the intersection of technology strategy, customer engagement, and market leadership.

REQUIREMENTS:
- Demonstrated expertise in DevSecOps strategy, application security, and compliance for regulated environments, including providing risk-based guidance
- Experience selling to, supporting, or working within the public sector
- Experience creating and delivering technical thought leadership content (presentations, demos, written materials) independently
- Working knowledge of the end-to-end software development lifecycle, including CI/CD and modern engineering and operations practices
- Experience with cloud computing and modern platform architectures that support secure software delivery
- Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate technical strategy effectively to audiences ranging from executives to engineers
- Comfort working in a fully remote, distributed, and asynchronous environment
- Ability to coordinate across time zones and adapt schedules to customer and internal stakeholder needs
- Experience in technical pre-sales, consulting, solutions architecture, or comparable customer-facing IT roles, including using GitLab (and willingness to learn quickly) to support customer conversations and demonstrations
- Living in the Washington D.C. Metro area preferred
