Luminai is an AI-powered healthcare operations platform that automates mission-critical workflows across health systems. The company has raised $60M (Series B led by Peak XV Partners) and is backed by prominent investors including Kevin Weil (OpenAI CPO), Arash Ferdowsi (Dropbox co-founder), and CEOs from Flexport, Notion, Front, Ramp, and Twitch.
As a Forward Deployed Engineering Lead, you will serve as a senior technical leader embedded directly with customers, bridging engineering, product, and customer delivery. You'll design and deploy AI-driven solutions that solve real operational problems in healthcare, while setting technical standards and best practices for the FDE team.
Key responsibilities include: embedding with customers to understand workflows and constraints; designing, building, and deploying AI-powered solutions; building and maintaining production systems including APIs, integrations, monitoring, and feedback loops; translating business requirements into technical architectures; operating in high-stakes environments where reliability and judgment matter; identifying patterns across deployments to inform core product development; partnering with Product and Engineering to influence roadmap and system design; owning end-to-end deployments from scoping through launch and iteration; mentoring other FDEs and setting technical direction for the team.
You'll need 5+ years of software engineering experience, ideally as an FDE or in backend/systems work. You should be a senior, steady hand comfortable operating with autonomy and raising the bar for others. Strong Python proficiency is required (TypeScript/JavaScript a plus), along with cloud infrastructure experience (AWS, GCP, or Azure). You must excel at translating ambiguous requirements into production-ready systems, communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders, and operate independently in fast-changing environments. Experience with AI systems (LLMs, vector databases, prompt engineering, agent frameworks) is a strong plus.
The team works in-office 4 days per week (Monday-Friday, with Wednesday optional WFH) in San Francisco or New York.
