The Factory Planner role is part of the Supply Chain team and owns the production schedule that connects demand to the shop floor. This is a hands-on planning position in a high-mix, evolving manufacturing environment where engineering changes are frequent, lead times are long, and priorities shift regularly.
Key responsibilities include:
**Production Planning & Scheduling:** Build and maintain the production schedule based on demand signals, capacity constraints, and material availability. Create, release, and close work orders in NetSuite with accurate start dates, due dates, and quantities. Level-load the schedule against labor, tooling, and workcenter capacity; identify and escalate bottlenecks before they impact delivery. Sequence builds to balance on-time delivery against WIP, changeover, and resource efficiency.
**Material Planning:** Run and action MRP output including releasing planned orders, rescheduling, and resolving exception messages. Partner with Buyer Planners on shortages, expedites, and long-lead-time commitments. Maintain planning parameters such as lead times, safety stock, reorder points, lot sizing, and planning time fences. Track and communicate a prioritized shortage list to production and procurement teams.
**Execution & Cross-Functional Support:** Lead or participate in daily production meetings; report schedule status, risks, and recovery plans. Work with Manufacturing Engineering and Quality to resolve BOM, routing, and yield issues. Support engineering change implementation by assessing inventory and WIP impact, planning cut-in points, and managing obsolete material disposition. Coordinate kitting and material staging with Warehouse/Stockroom.
**Data Integrity & Continuous Improvement:** Maintain accurate item master, BOM, and routing data within the ERP; drive correction of errors at the source. Reconcile inventory discrepancies and partner with Inventory Control on root cause analysis. Report on planning KPIs including schedule attainment, on-time delivery, inventory turns, shortage count, and past-due work orders. Identify and implement process improvements; document workflows for sustainability.
The ideal candidate is disciplined about data hygiene in the ERP, communicates clearly with production and procurement, and has the judgment to prioritize effectively in a dynamic environment.
**Requirements:**
- 3+ years of production planning, master scheduling, or materials planning experience in a manufacturing environment, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Operations, Industrial Engineering, Business, or related field, or equivalent practical experience
- Working knowledge of MRP/ERP systems and the logic behind them (planned orders, pegging, exception messages, planning parameters)
- Strong Excel skills including pivot tables, lookups, and ability to build working analyses independently
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret BOMs, routings, and engineering drawings
- Clear written and verbal communication; comfortable pushing back on unrealistic requests with data
**Preferred Qualifications:**
- Experience with NetSuite or comparable Tier 1/Tier 2 ERP
- Background in high-mix/low-volume, prototype-to-production, or new product introduction environments
- APICS/ASCM certification (CPIM, CSCP) or active pursuit
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing, kanban, or pull-based replenishment
- Experience supporting engineering change orders and revision-controlled builds
- Working knowledge of business intelligence reporting tools
