STOKE Space is building Nova, a fully reusable launch vehicle designed for daily flight to radically lower space launch costs and increase flight cadence. The Facilities Engineer will support the engineering, design, operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of critical infrastructure systems that enable rocket design, production, and testing.
This is a hands-on engineering role requiring strong technical expertise, field execution, vendor negotiation and management, and data-driven decision-making under pressure. You will work cross-functionally with manufacturing, test, launch, EHS, security, operations, and leadership teams to solve infrastructure problems at scale while supporting rapid operational growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead engineering, design, commissioning, operation, repair, and optimization of facility infrastructure systems including chilled water and equipment cooling, electrical distribution, fire protection, compressed gases and cryogenic systems, plumbing, and industrial utilities
- Manage facility improvement projects from concept through execution, including scope development, budgeting, contractor coordination, commissioning, and turnover to manufacturing
- Evaluate infrastructure capacity and system performance to support manufacturing growth, new equipment installation, process changes, facility expansion, and future production requirements
- Partner closely with engineering, manufacturing, testing, and operations to rapidly resolve facility-related constraints that impact schedule and execution
- Create and optimize data collection and monitoring systems that track system performance, process capability, reliability, and scalability
- Create and maintain technical documentation, including engineering drawings, P&IDs, utility maps, infrastructure standards, equipment specifications, operating procedures, commissioning documentation, maintenance procedures, and system records
- Coordinate and oversee contractors and vendors, including project scoping, contract negotiation, priority and task management, and upholding safety standards and accountability
- Support emergency response, incident investigations, root cause investigations, and recovery efforts associated with facility or infrastructure failures
- Support the development of preventive and predictive maintenance strategies designed to improve system uptime, reliability, maintainability, and equipment life
- Coordinate and work directly with facility landlords, local government officials, permitting, fire department, utility providers, and vendors to coordinate and own tenant improvements, facility upgrades and repairs, and facility support
The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment where priorities evolve quickly, challenges are complex, and extreme ownership is expected. You must be technically capable, detail-oriented, resourceful, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced development environment with aggressive schedules.
QUALIFICATIONS (Required):
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Facilities Engineering, Construction Management, or related technical discipline
- 5+ years of experience engineering, design, and/or construction of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and/or fire protection systems for critical facilities or high-performance applications (aerospace, oil & gas, heavy equipment, power generation, amusement parks, data centers, etc.)
- Strong engineering fundamentals across multiple disciplines (mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, fluids, and/or software)
- Strong technical knowledge of facility systems including chilled water systems, compressed air, electrical distribution, industrial piping, compressed gases, system controls, and infrastructure utilities
- Demonstrated experience troubleshooting complex infrastructure, equipment, or utility-system failures in time-sensitive operational environments
- Experience scoping, negotiating, and managing contractors, vendors, construction, and maintenance activities in an operational environment
- Project management experience involving facility expansion, equipment installation, commissioning, tenant improvements, or infrastructure upgrades
- Ability to draft, read, and interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, electrical one-line diagrams, equipment specifications, and construction documents
- Working knowledge of OSHA regulations, NFPA standards, ASME standards, IBC standards, LOTO, and industrial safety practices
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple competing tasks and execute with minimal oversight in a rapidly changing environment
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to interface effectively across engineering, manufacturing, testing, operations, and external partners
- Proficient with 3D CAD software (Siemens NX preferred)
- Willing to relocate to Kent, WA with periodic travel to Moses Lake, WA
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Facilities Engineering, Construction Management, or related technical discipline
- 10+ years of experience supporting industrial facilities, manufacturing operations, mission-critical systems, data centers, or similar high-reliability operations
- Professional Engineering (P.E.) license
- Familiarity with cryogenic systems and high-pressure gas distribution systems
- Knowledge of building automation systems, data tracking, and industrial controls integration
- Experience with CAD software, including NX
- Experience with CMMS platforms, reliability engineering methodologies, or maintenance planning systems
- Understanding of environmental compliance requirements, hazardous material management, or industrial permitting processes
- Experience supporting classified or export-controlled operations within ITAR-regulated environments
Note: ITAR Requirements — To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S. (current Green Card holder), or protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3).
