Modern Intelligence builds Sovereign, targeting software for unmanned systems (UAVs, USVs, UUVs, and other unmanned vehicles). The software runs on vehicle computers, detects and classifies targets from onboard cameras, maintains tracking through signal loss, and provides terminal guidance. It operates without GPS or radio connectivity. The company has held Department of War contracts with Air Force Special Operations and SOCOM, and has raised over $12 million from top-tier investors including Bedrock, Vine, Contrary, and Air Street. You will be the first Executive Assistant hired at Modern Intelligence, supporting the CTO in a fast-growing company. Your primary responsibilities include organizing calendars and managing time to ensure the CTO has sufficient focus for engineering and design work. You will handle traditional EA activities while embracing AI tools to automate routine tasks, freeing you to focus on high-value work requiring human judgment or physical presence. Key responsibilities: - Organize calendars, manage scheduling, and protect focus time for technical work - Attend meetings the CTO cannot, capture outcomes, and brief him afterward (not representing him or making decisions) - Prepare the CTO and other executives before meetings - Check in on the engineering team during the CTO's busy periods or absences - Take notes in technical meetings, capturing decisions and follow-ups - Provide periodic written updates throughout the day - Build strong relationships across the company, especially with engineering and executive teams - Help shape expectations for the EA role as the first hire in this position You will have access to personnel, financial, customer, and export-controlled information, requiring high discretion. Some technical sophistication is required to understand engineering discussions, though formal engineering experience is not necessary. You may be asked to support multiple executives as the company grows. REQUIREMENTS: - 3+ years supporting a senior leader as an executive assistant, or equivalent experience in a coordination-heavy role - Technical comprehension sufficient to follow engineering meetings and distinguish between different types of blockers (e.g., code review vs. hardware issues) without needing to solve technical problems - Strong written communication skills for meeting preps and concise daily updates - Fluency with AI tools and enthusiasm for using them to automate routine tasks - Discretion and ability to handle sensitive personnel, financial, customer, and export-controlled information - Must be on-site in Austin, Texas - Must be a U.S. person (U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or other protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to export-controlled technology exposure PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: - Experience supporting engineering or technical leadership - Startup or small, fast-moving company experience - Fluency with Google's office suite (Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides) - Familiarity with Jira, Confluence, GitLab, or demonstrated ability to learn similar tools quickly - Background in program or project coordination (scrum master, program coordinator, technical recruiting coordinator) - Experience managing executive travel booking and expense management - Prior defense industry experience - Active or previously held security clearance - Military administrative experience in a technical role - Experience supporting multiple executives simultaneously
