Axiom Space is building the world's first commercial space station and is seeking a Principal Systems Engineer to lead Extra-Vehicular Activity (EVA) systems engineering and integration efforts. This role reports to the EVA Systems Engineering and Integration Manager and is based onsite in Webster, Texas.
You will own end-to-end systems engineering for Axiom's EVA systems, including spacesuits, flight support equipment, training equipment, ground equipment, and EVA tools. Key responsibilities include:
• Leading major testing campaigns for the AxEVA System
• Defining EVA system conception: concept of operations, functions, interfaces, subsystem-level requirements, and procurement specifications
• Ensuring requirements traceability, derivation, stakeholder alignment, and impact assessments
• Planning, coordinating, and closing verification and validation (V&V) activities across all engineering teams
• Defining system, subsystem, and component V&V approaches and requirements
• Coordinating integrated V&V test plans, procedures, and schedules
• Developing and maintaining system and subsystem integrated performance assessments
• Monitoring design and testing progress; escalating issues to SE&I leadership
• Developing waivers and design variances
• Collaborating with subsystem engineers, program office, and external customers on SE&I planning and execution
• Capturing V&V evidence and coordinating requirement closure
You will need 9+ years of systems engineering experience across the full lifecycle (concepts, requirements, design, integration, V&V), ideally with NASA human spaceflight programs and spacecraft/spacesuit testing. A Bachelor's degree in aerospace, electrical, mechanical, or related engineering discipline is required. INCOSE CSEP certification is preferred.
Ideal candidates demonstrate extreme ownership, grit, resourcefulness, and the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to senior decision-makers and technical audiences. Experience in startup environments is a plus.
