You will own all aspects of the EH&S function, including: **Core Responsibilities:** - Build and continuously improve the EH&S program from the ground up, tailoring it to a manufacturing startup environment - Conduct detailed hazard analyses, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and risk assessments for manufacturing processes including prepreg layup, cure, machining, 3D printing, bonding, and finishing - Design and implement practical controls for carbon fiber and composite dust, resin and solvent exposure, and other industrial hygiene risks through dust collection, ventilation, exposure monitoring, and PPE strategies - Manage air quality compliance with AQMD, including VOC and particulate emissions data, material usage tracking, monitoring results, recordkeeping, and regulatory reporting - Establish and maintain the hazardous waste program: characterize waste streams (uncured prepreg, resins, adhesives, solvents, contaminated consumables), manage accumulation and storage, coordinate vendors and manifests, and ensure EPA, DTSC, and local CUPA compliance - Build and operate safety programs including Injury and Illness Prevention Plan (IIPP), Hazard Communication, LOTO, machine guarding, respiratory protection, hearing conservation, forklift and crane safety, heat illness prevention, emergency response, and workplace violence prevention - Own Cal/OSHA recordkeeping and compliance (300, 300A, 301 logs, training records, written programs, inspections) to maintain audit readiness - Support product compliance for REACH, RoHS, and California Proposition 65, including material declarations and supplier data management - Lead incident and near-miss investigations with root cause analysis and drive corrective actions to closure - Train the team and embed safety into daily work practices through partnership with technicians, engineers, and leadership - Serve as primary contact for regulators, auditors, insurers, and customer EH&S requests **Requirements:** - 5+ years of hands-on EH&S experience in manufacturing, ideally in composites, aerospace, or environments with chemicals, dust, and heavy equipment - Technical background with degree in engineering, chemistry, industrial hygiene, environmental science, or related field (or equivalent experience) - Working knowledge of Cal/OSHA (Title 8) and federal OSHA (29 CFR 1910) requirements - Experience with air permitting and compliance, ideally with SCAQMD or another California air district - Hands-on experience running hazardous waste programs, including characterization, accumulation, manifests, and generator requirements under RCRA and California DTSC rules - Track record of standing up real safety programs from scratch and maintaining compliance documentation - Familiarity with REACH, RoHS, and Prop 65, or ability to learn quickly - Partnership mindset: ability to earn buy-in from workers rather than police compliance - Good judgment about risk prioritization and ability to right-size initiatives - Comfort moving fast with imperfect information and building lean, practical systems suited to startup environments **Bonus Experience:** - Prepreg composites, autoclaves, or carbon fiber machining dust control - EH&S setup at startups or rapidly growing facilities - Industrial hygiene sampling and exposure assessment - Professional certifications (CSP, CIH, CHMM, ASP) - Aerospace and defense customer audit or flow-down requirement support - EH&S software or digital tools development
