Radiant is building the world's first mass-produced, portable nuclear microreactors. The company's flagship product, Kaleidos, is a 1-megawatt, fail-safe microreactor designed for rapid deployment to hospitals, data centers, remote sites, and military bases. Founded in 2020, Radiant is preparing for first reactor testing at Idaho National Laboratory and initial customer deliveries in 2028.
You will serve as Radiant's Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) authority, owning the strategy, development, implementation, and execution of EHS programs across multi-site manufacturing and operations. This is a hands-on role balancing field engagement with strategic leadership in a lean, fast-moving startup environment.
Key responsibilities include:
- Develop and execute Radiant's EHS strategy and implementation roadmap, informed by regulatory compliance and first-principles business risk analysis.
- Serve as company and site-level authority for OSHA and Cal-OSHA compliance, managing inspections, regulatory correspondence, record-keeping, and corrective actions.
- Develop, implement, and maintain safety programs (IIPP, Hazard Communication, Lockout/Tagout, Electrical Safety, Hot Work, Contractor Safety) for a growing multi-site, multi-state operation.
- Design and lead all safety training organization-wide.
- Define PPE requirements, conduct hazard assessments, and ensure proper selection, training, and usage.
- Own emergency preparedness programs, including Emergency Action Plans, evacuation procedures, drills, and emergency response coordination.
- Partner with facilities on fire suppression, alarm, and detection systems.
- Maintain strong shop-floor presence to identify hazards, observe operations, and drive continuous improvement.
- Track and report EHS metrics; lead incident investigations and root cause analysis.
- Partner with manufacturing and operations teams to identify hazards and implement engineering and administrative controls.
- Evaluate EHS risk for new processes, equipment, and work centers before installation.
- Own hazardous materials management, including inventory, SDS, labeling, storage, and compatibility.
- Manage hazardous waste accumulation areas, manifests, inspections, and vendor coordination.
- Manage and maintain environmental permits (hazardous materials, waste, air emissions, wastewater, stormwater).
- Lead environmental inspections and regulatory interactions with local, state, and federal agencies.
- Partner with facilities on modifications, construction, and equipment installations to ensure safety and environmental compliance.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in environmental engineering, safety engineering, industrial engineering, environmental science, or related field.
- 5+ years of EHS experience in manufacturing, industrial, or regulated environments.
- Experience building, developing, and implementing EHS strategies and programs.
- Deep working knowledge of OSHA/Cal-OSHA, fire safety, hazardous materials management, and environmental compliance.
- Comfortable acting as primary EHS owner in a lean, fast-moving organization.
- Proven ability to work cross-functionally to affect change and embed EHS practices into daily operations.
- Experience with high-pressure and high-temperature machinery, especially custom-built equipment, is a plus.
