GitBook is hiring an Enterprise Migrations Engineer to own a new function: helping enterprise customers migrate hundreds of thousands of pages of legacy documentation into GitBook cleanly and reliably. You'll be the first person in this role, building the process from scratch.
You'll work end-to-end on customer migrations: scoping content structure, communicating timelines and complexity, writing transformation scripts to parse and normalize content from diverse legacy formats (PDF, HTML, RST, Confluence exports, custom CMS dumps), and building reusable tooling so each migration gets faster. You'll partner with Solutions Engineers pre-sale to inform deal strategy and feed product feedback based on field observations.
The technical work centers on Python scripting, GitBook's API and Git Sync, document format parsing (Markdown, RST, HTML, XML, PDF text extraction), and standard DevOps tooling (shell, Git, data wrangling). You'll choose the right tool for each job rather than follow a mandated stack.
This role sits between software engineering and customer success. It's not pure engineering—code quality and systems thinking matter, but so do clear communication with enterprise customers, managing expectations, and delivering difficult news professionally. It's not account management either; you're hands-on technical.
You should have an ownership mindset and low tolerance for repetition. The goal is to turn one-off migration work into a documented, repeatable playbook. You're pragmatic: clean content in GitBook matters more than perfect code. You're comfortable parsing messy, structured, and semi-structured content at scale and know when to write a custom parser versus using off-the-shelf tools.
Ideal backgrounds include technical writing, documentation engineering, solutions engineering with heavy scripting, data engineering (especially with document data), or developer tools experience. Content management systems and structured formats (DITA, DocBook) are helpful but not required.
