Matillion is the company behind Maia, an AI Data Automation platform that combines 15 years of data expertise with agentic AI to eliminate manual work that slows data teams down. Customers like Cisco, DocuSign, and Slack use the platform to deliver business impact faster.
You will own a portfolio of existing Matillion customers with two primary objectives: convert customers on flexible, pay-as-you-go billing into committed annual agreements, and turn struggling or at-risk accounts back into healthy, growing ones. This is a business-first role requiring enough technical fluency to hold credible conversations about the product, but success comes from reading a customer's usage, value, and risk profile and knowing exactly how to act on it. You will run your own book, make decisions on where your time goes, and know when an account needs your full attention versus escalation.
Key responsibilities include: actively managing a portfolio of customer accounts while tracking usage, health, and commercial status; identifying pay-as-you-go customers ready to move to committed annual agreements and closing those deals; diagnosing why at-risk accounts are struggling (product adoption, service issues, unmet expectations) and building remediation plans; proactively monitoring early signs of decline and intervening before accounts become churn risks; and partnering cross-functionally with technical, support, and product teams to resolve issues and escalate when needed.
Matillion operates a flexible working culture with 25 days PTO, 5 days paid volunteering leave, company equity, health insurance, life insurance, mental health support access, and 401k.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Proven book ownership: demonstrable experience managing a portfolio in customer success, account management, or renewals/sales with a track record of hitting retention or revenue targets
- Closer mentality: proven ability to walk customers through pricing or contract changes and close deals, not just present options
- Working technical fluency: comfortable with cloud/SaaS products to diagnose customer struggles without needing an engineer present
- Turnaround experience: real track record of recovering dissatisfied or at-risk customer relationships
- CRM discipline: fluent in Salesforce or equivalent; pipeline hygiene, forecasting, and reporting are second nature
- Personal capabilities: organized under volume, direct with customers when needed, operates independently with minimal hand-holding, steady under pressure with frustrated or churn-risk accounts
