Voyager Technologies is seeking an Engineering Site Manager for Controllable Solid Propulsion based in Long Beach, CA. This is a dual-role position combining engineering site management (~75% of duties) with direct technical responsibilities in mechanical design and ballistics engineering.
As Engineering Site Manager, you will lead a team of approximately 20 mechanical, systems, and aerospace engineers. Key management responsibilities include: serving as the primary ambassador for the Long Beach engineering team, fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration, supporting individual contributor development through mentorship and performance management, managing resource allocation and staffing adjustments based on program demands, and ensuring team adherence to engineering best practices and compliance standards.
On the technical side, you will lead the design and development of complex rocket motor systems, including specialized igniters, pressure vessels, actuators, hot gas valves, and rocket thrusters. You will perform trade-off analyses, develop intricate 2D/3D CAD models with advanced GD&T and tolerance analysis, set up and validate complex structural, dynamic, thermal, and combustion simulations, and apply expertise in advanced materials (metals, refractory metals, ceramics, composites, additive manufacturing). You will also oversee design for manufacturability, complex welding, molding/casting, and assembly planning.
The position reports to the VP of Engineering within the Strategic Systems line of business. This role is hybrid-based in Long Beach, CA, requiring collaboration with technical peers, chief engineers, systems engineering, and program managers across the organization. The ideal candidate balances strong mechanical engineering expertise with demonstrated leadership capability, able to manage both strategic site-level responsibilities and hands-on technical execution.
