Halter is a venture-backed agtech company transforming livestock farming through autonomous grazing management. The company operates one of the world's largest private IoT networks, connecting over one million devices across New Zealand, Australia, the US, and Canada using LoRa, cellular, and satellite technologies in remote, challenging terrain. You will lead the wireless network engineering team responsible for the connectivity layer that underpins Halter's entire system. This is a hands-on manager role where you remain deeply technical while building and developing your team. Key responsibilities include: leading a team of wireless network engineers through mentoring, feedback, and performance management; owning technical direction and delivery of network architecture, reliability, and scalability; maintaining expertise in spectrum allocation, LoRa/cellular behavior, tower infrastructure, and fleet automation; driving network reliability outcomes including uptime, incident response, and on-call practices; planning tower deployment and coverage strategy as the company scales into new regions; hiring and growing the wireless engineering team; collaborating with firmware, backend, hardware, and field operations teams to shape product requirements; exploring AI tools to accelerate development; and developing deep domain knowledge by spending time on farms. The role demands someone who can take ambiguous problems, create clarity, and lead a team to execute. You'll be solving connectivity challenges that haven't been solved before—keeping livestock connected hundreds of kilometers from the nearest town where conventional coverage doesn't exist. This requires absolute ownership and the ability to hold a high technical bar while creating space for team growth.
