Checkr is a data platform powering safe and fair decisions through AI verification. The company serves over 140,000 customers including Uber, Airbnb, DoorDash, and Anthropic, helping millions of people navigate critical moments like job applications, housing, and childcare screening.
As Engineering Manager for Verifications, you'll lead a team responsible for one of Checkr's most expansive product portfolios. The Verifications team owns employment and education verifications, drug and occupational health screenings, reference checks, and right-to-work products. You'll drive both immediate system scalability and long-term delivery process refinement.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and growing the Verifications engineering team, setting technical direction and driving career development
- Owning reliability and quality across a broad portfolio of fulfillment integrations, partnering with vendors and internal stakeholders
- Partnering with Product to define and execute roadmap across multiple verification products
- Driving technical strategy for scaling a complex, integration-heavy system with deliberate architecture decisions
- Leading the team's adoption of AI-assisted development practices while maintaining quality and accuracy standards
- Representing Verifications in cross-functional planning with Product, Compliance, and Engineering leadership
You'll need 4+ years as an engineering manager with a track record of building high-performing teams, plus 8+ years as a software engineer with strong command of service architecture and distributed systems. Experience managing complex third-party integrations is essential—you're comfortable owning reliability across systems you don't fully control. You should have a track record of improving operational metrics in high-stakes production environments, familiarity with AI-assisted development tools, and experience with regulated products where data accuracy and compliance are non-negotiable. Strong incident management, prioritization, and cross-functional communication skills are critical, along with genuine investment in developing people.
