Checkr is a data platform powering safe and fair decisions through AI-assisted verification. The company serves over 140,000 customers including Uber, Airbnb, DoorDash, and Anthropic, helping millions of people navigate critical moments: employment, housing, transportation, childcare, and dating. Checkr is on the Forbes Cloud 100 2025 list and a Y Combinator 2024 Breakthrough Company. As Engineering Manager for Verifications, you will lead a team responsible for one of Checkr's most expansive product portfolios. The Verifications team owns employment and education verifications, drug and occupational health screenings, reference checks, and right-to-work products. These products serve enterprise customers operating across diverse industries and regulatory environments, each with distinct compliance and screening requirements. You'll own a wide surface area with meaningful room to improve: accuracy and turnaround time, reducing manual touchpoints, and scaling delivery across complex fulfillment integrations and compliance requirements. The role balances near-term work on scaling data quality and automation systems to handle rapid growth with strategic, longer-horizon investments in expanding coverage and building a faster, more consistent verification experience. Key responsibilities include: leading and growing the engineering team with focus on technical direction, performance, and career development; owning reliability and quality of a broad portfolio of fulfillment integrations; partnering with Product to define and execute roadmaps across multiple product lines; driving technical strategy for scaling complex, integration-heavy systems; leading the team's adoption of AI-assisted development practices; and representing Verifications in cross-functional planning with Product, Compliance, and Engineering leadership. You bring 4+ years as an engineering manager with a track record of building high-performing teams, plus 8+ years as a software engineer with strong command of service architecture, distributed systems, and system design. You have experience managing complex third-party integration environments, improving operational metrics in high-stakes production environments, and working on regulated products where data accuracy and compliance are non-negotiable. You're familiar with AI-assisted development and agentic coding tools, possess strong incident management skills, and can balance short-term reliability work against longer-term product investments. You communicate effectively across technical and non-technical stakeholders and are genuinely invested in developing people.
