Checkr is a data platform powering safe and fair decisions, trusted by 140,000+ companies including Uber, Airbnb, DoorDash, and Amazon. The Verifications team owns a broad portfolio of screening products—employment and education verifications, drug and occupational health screenings, reference checks, and right-to-work compliance—that serve enterprise customers across diverse industries and regulatory environments. As Engineering Manager for Verifications, you will lead and grow an engineering team while owning a wide technical surface area. Your responsibilities include setting technical direction, driving team performance and career development, and building a hiring pipeline. You'll own the reliability and quality of fulfillment integrations, partnering with vendors and internal stakeholders to reduce friction and improve turnaround times. Working closely with Product, you'll define and execute the roadmap across multiple verification products, translating customer and regulatory requirements into engineering priorities. You'll drive technical strategy for scaling a complex, integration-heavy system—making deliberate architecture decisions that improve coverage, reduce manual exceptions, and build toward a more automated verification experience. A key focus is leading the team's adoption of AI-assisted development practices to move faster while maintaining the quality and accuracy standards required for a regulated, data-sensitive product. You'll represent Verifications in cross-functional planning, serving as the engineering voice on capacity, tradeoffs, and roadmap sequencing with Product, Compliance, and Engineering leadership. You bring 4+ years as an engineering manager with a track record of building high-performing teams, plus 8+ years as a software engineer with strong command of service architecture and distributed systems. You have experience managing complex third-party integration environments and a track record of improving operational metrics in high-stakes production environments. You're familiar with AI-assisted development tools and understand how to help teams adopt them responsibly. Experience with regulated products where data accuracy and compliance are critical is essential. You excel at incident management, prioritization under ambiguity, and communicating across technical and non-technical stakeholders. Above all, you're genuinely invested in developing people and raising the bar.
