The Verifications team owns one of Checkr's most expansive product portfolios, including employment and education verifications, drug and occupational health screenings, reference checks, and right-to-work products. These products serve enterprise customers across diverse industries and regulatory environments, requiring rapid iteration and compliance expertise.
As Engineering Manager for Verifications, you will lead and grow the engineering team while owning a broad surface area of impact. Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the Verifications engineering team: setting technical direction, driving performance and career development, and building a hiring pipeline
- Owning reliability and quality across a portfolio of fulfillment integrations, partnering with vendors and internal stakeholders to reduce friction and improve turnaround times
- Partnering with Product to define and execute the roadmap across employment, education, drug/health, and compliance products
- Driving technical strategy for scaling a complex, integration-heavy system to improve coverage, reduce manual exceptions, and build toward automation
- Leading the team's adoption of AI-assisted development practices while maintaining quality and accuracy standards
- Representing Verifications in cross-functional planning, serving as the engineering voice on capacity, tradeoffs, and roadmap sequencing
You bring 4+ years as an engineering manager with a track record of building high-performing teams, plus 8+ years as a software engineer with strong command of service architecture and distributed systems. You have experience managing complex third-party integration environments and a track record of improving operational metrics in high-stakes production environments. You're familiar with AI-assisted development tools, have experience with regulated products where data accuracy is critical, and possess strong incident management and communication skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders. Above all, you're genuinely invested in developing people and have an A-player mindset with bias for action.
