As Engineering Manager for Verifications, you will lead a team responsible for one of Checkr's most expansive product portfolios, including employment and education verifications, drug and occupational health screenings, reference checks, and right-to-work products. The Verifications team powers informed decisions across enterprise customers operating in diverse industries and regulatory environments. Key responsibilities include: - Leading and growing the Verifications engineering team, setting technical direction, driving performance and career development, and building a hiring pipeline - Owning reliability and quality of a broad portfolio of fulfillment integrations, partnering with vendors and internal stakeholders to reduce friction and improve turnaround times - Partnering with Product to define and execute the roadmap across employment, education, drug/health, and compliance products - Driving technical strategy for scaling a complex, integration-heavy system with deliberate architecture decisions that improve coverage and reduce manual exceptions - Leading the team's adoption of AI-assisted development practices while maintaining quality and accuracy standards for a regulated, data-sensitive product - Representing Verifications in cross-functional planning, serving as the engineering voice on capacity, tradeoffs, and roadmap sequencing You bring 4+ years as an engineering manager with a track record of building high-performing teams, plus 8+ years as a software engineer with strong command of service architecture, distributed systems, and system design. You have experience managing complex third-party integration environments and a track record of improving operational metrics in high-stakes production environments. Familiarity with AI-assisted development and agentic coding tools is important, as is experience working on regulated products where data accuracy and legal compliance are non-negotiable. Strong incident management skills, prioritization frameworks, and cross-functional communication abilities are essential. You demonstrate genuine investment in developing people and bring humility, openness to feedback, and an A-player mindset with bias for action.
