Givebutter is a mission-driven nonprofit fundraising and CRM platform that empowers changemakers to raise funds, manage donors, and coordinate campaigns in one place. The platform is free for nonprofits with a transparent tip-or-fee model, and has been certified as a Great Place to Work since 2021. You will lead the Treasury engineering pod, directly responsible for delivering world-class financial infrastructure to nonprofit users while maturing engineering practices and growing a skilled engineering team. This is a hands-on manager role: you'll ship code, review PRs, make architectural decisions with real context, and stay close to production by monitoring systems, jumping into incidents, and understanding how your team's work behaves in production. You won't carry IC load like a senior engineer, but you'll be in the editor regularly, pair when helpful, and prototype through ambiguity. Managers who thrive here earn trust on both the people and technical sides. You'll report directly to the VP of Engineering and execute the product vision while building a scalable engineering culture that breeds innovation. You'll ensure excellent user experiences ship on time without compromising security, design, or performance. You'll cultivate high performers by removing roadblocks, building processes that incentivize excellence, and bringing real expertise in fintech and financial systems. Givebutter already powers hundreds of millions of donations to over 40,000 organizations; you'll take that impact further. Key responsibilities include: collaborating with the VP of Engineering on Treasury engineering strategy; leading, managing, and mentoring a team of full-stack engineers building Givebutter Wallet features, payment tools, and financial dashboards; owning the Treasury engineering function and setting technical direction; driving development of same-day ACH transfer tools, card issuing systems, and QuickBooks integration; building and maintaining financial infrastructure for nonprofit rewards and faster money movement; bringing technical expertise to financial systems evolution; improving internal engineering workflows; championing code quality; and evaluating AI/ML tools for financial product innovation. The engineering culture emphasizes code democracy (every engineer has a voice), autonomy and focus (minimal meetings, uninterrupted deep work), seamless CI/CD (fully automated deployment pipelines), and mission-driven work supporting nonprofits making real-world impact. REQUIREMENTS: - 7+ years of full-stack development experience with modern web technologies (React, JavaScript, TypeScript, PHP/Laravel) - Hands-on experience designing and building scalable financial or fintech systems, ideally including payment processing, ACH, card issuing, or accounting integrations - 2+ years managing a team of 5+ engineers - Strong understanding of financial compliance, security requirements, and data integrity in regulated environments - Proven people management, mentorship, and clear communication skills - Demonstrated success hiring and developing remote engineering teams - Product-led growth environment experience is a strong plus
