Anthropic is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Review Tooling team within the Safeguards organization. This foundational role owns the systems that safety investigators and increasingly Claude use to investigate potential harms and take enforcement actions across Anthropic's first-party products and third-party cloud platforms. You will lead and grow a team of engineers building investigation, review, and enforcement tooling. Key responsibilities include defining the vision and roadmap for the review tooling platform—encompassing analytics capabilities, privacy-preserving data access primitives, and a sandbox environment for rapid iteration on new review interfaces. You'll drive the team's strategy for scaling review through automation, enabling reviewers to use Claude effectively while building toward Claude-assisted and Claude-driven review workflows. The role requires close partnership with policy, operations, legal, privacy, and data science teams to translate enforcement and investigation needs into reliable, well-designed systems. You'll ensure review tooling evolves alongside new privacy primitives and data retention commitments, maintaining user trust while enabling effective reviewer workflows. You'll create clarity for the team and stakeholders in an ambiguous, evolving environment, and take an inclusive, equitable approach to hiring and coaching top technical talent. Minimum qualifications include experience managing software engineering teams (hiring, coaching, development), a technical background in full-stack or platform engineering, experience shipping internal tools or platforms with demanding operational users, cross-functional collaboration with non-engineering partners, excellent communication skills, and genuine care about the societal impacts of AI. Preferred qualifications include 4+ years of management experience and 10+ years of industry software engineering experience, background in trust and safety or abuse-prevention tooling, experience designing systems under strict privacy and data governance constraints, experience integrating LLMs or agentic systems into operational workflows, experience building developer platforms or extensible tooling frameworks, and experience supporting enforcement systems across multiple product surfaces including enterprise or cloud platform contexts.
