Salary: USD 248,000 - 310,000 / annual
Discord is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a team of software engineers focused on Platform Security. The role involves shaping company-wide security strategy and building systems that make security the easy path for Discord's 200+ million monthly active users.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading a highly-autonomous team of 3+ security software engineers
- Building and operating identity and access management (IAM) systems for humans and machines
- Securing software supply chains from development through CI/CD to production
- Developing secure baselines for cloud infrastructure (GCP, Cloudflare, AWS)
- Managing infrastructure vulnerabilities while supporting a high-velocity engineering organization with hundreds of developers
- Consulting on risk assessments, architectural designs, threat models, and code reviews
Required qualifications:
- 3+ years as a people manager, having managed a team of 3+ security software engineers
- 3+ years of experience securing systems with millions of users
- Expert reasoning about complex system security
- Experience building in and securing cloud-based environments
- Proficiency writing software in general-purpose languages (Python, TypeScript, Rust)
- Experience developing with agentic AI and understanding of AI security practices
- Passion for creating diverse, inclusive teams and coaching engineers
- Comfort writing roadmaps and owning technically and socially complex projects
Bonus experience includes modern authentication/authorization concepts (RBAC, OAuth, Zero Trust, mTLS), CI/CD technologies (Terraform, Bazel, Buildkite), container orchestration (Kubernetes, Docker), and security platform operations.
