Radar is the global leader in geolocation infrastructure, processing over 1 billion API calls per day from hundreds of millions of devices. You will manage and grow a globally distributed Platform team responsible for building and operating Radar's infrastructure, developer platform, and data systems. Your focus spans the application layer while connecting application and infrastructure development through automated tooling and workflows. The role requires driving a roadmap that ensures Radar's services remain scalable and highly available worldwide. Key responsibilities include: - Managing, growing, and mentoring a globally distributed Platform team - Providing technical leadership across backend, frontend, and mobile tech stacks - Collaborating with product engineering and SRE teams to build highly available systems with 99.99%+ uptime - Working with product, SRE, and data teams to enable self-serve capabilities including build/test/deploy infrastructure, observability improvements, and data pipeline investments - Building and supporting core platform capabilities like IAM, feature flagging, and application rate limiting - Driving development of the internal development platform, including supporting server, frontend, mobile, and desktop frameworks - Integrating safe AI-enabled development practices throughout the SDLC - Enabling test automation and coverage for developers The technical stack includes Node.js + TypeScript for the API layer, Rust for the geospatial database (HorizonDB), MongoDB, S3/Athena, Redis, and Airflow. Infrastructure is deployed to AWS via Kubernetes on EKS using Terraform, with CI/CD via CircleCI and monitoring through CloudWatch, Grafana, Pingdom, and PagerDuty. Radar's engineering culture emphasizes shipping fast, customer feedback, and hands-on dogfooding. Most engineers are former technical co-founders or interns from top schools. The company values both deep expertise in specific stacks and multi-stack versatility. Engineers are expected to engage directly with customers, help close deals, and ensure successful implementations. The team meets in-person on Mondays for planning and uses Linear for project management.
