As Engineering Manager for Object Storage, you will build and lead a team of engineers creating an object storage product and future abstractions on the Render platform. This role blends strong technical leadership with product thinking, requiring close partnership with product managers and designers to translate user needs into scalable, high-quality systems that developers rely on daily.
Key responsibilities include:
- Building and leading a team of object storage engineers through mentorship, feedback, and technical guidance
- Driving execution on product initiatives from ideation through launch, balancing speed with reliability and quality standards
- Partnering with Product, Design, and Infrastructure teams to translate customer needs into technical solutions and roadmaps
- Engaging deeply in technical discussions to guide system design and architectural tradeoffs
- Fostering a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement
- Breaking down complex problems into incremental milestones that deliver value quickly
- Ensuring teams maintain strong understanding of developer experience and customer impact
- Collaborating with product management, customers, and internal teams to align priorities and ensure delivery
Required qualifications:
- 8+ years as an engineer shipping products/features with downstream business impact; ideally with stateful services experience
- 2+ years managing people, including hiring, mentorship, and performance management
- Strong technical background with ability to engage in system design, architecture, and engineering tradeoffs
- Product-oriented mindset translating business goals into engineering roadmaps
- Ability to balance urgency with thoughtful execution
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Strong sense of ownership for team outcomes and long-term system health
Nice-to-haves include experience with developer platforms, cloud infrastructure, distributed systems, engineering velocity improvements, and cross-functional collaboration for adoption and retention.
