Hinge Health is the leader in Digital Physical Therapy and is expanding into new therapeutic areas. You'll build a brand new product line from scratch as Engineering Manager for a new vertical, defining the engineering strategy and team that will serve millions of Americans through their healthcare plans.
In this hands-on leadership role, you'll manage a team of ~5 engineers building across React Native (mobile) and backend services (Go & JavaScript). You'll partner closely with Product, Design, and Marketing across San Francisco, Montreal, and Bangalore to define and launch a comprehensive digital care product for a new health condition.
Key responsibilities include: building and mentoring your engineering team while staying close to the technical stack (contributing code ~15% of your time); defining the product architecture and technology strategy from scratch; establishing engineering best practices for CI/CD, testing, monitoring, and performance; designing and running rigorous A/B experiments to validate assumptions and optimize member outcomes; and collaborating cross-functionally to align on strategy, experimentation roadmaps, and success metrics.
You'll accomplish significant milestones: within 3 months, assemble your team and define the new vertical strategy; within 6 months, ship a minimum loveable product (MLP) that demonstrates health improvements and establish an experimentation framework; within 12 months, launch the product and execute optimization experiments.
What makes this role unique: you're building a 0-to-1 product that blends licensed care providers, AI solutions, and medical-grade hardware. You'll use modern AI development tools (Cursor, Claude Code) to accelerate experimentation velocity. You'll operate in a regulated healthcare environment (HIPAA) with real health outcomes at stake.
Ideal candidate: 0-to-1 builder with 3+ years managing ~5+ engineers in product-focused environments. Strong technical depth in React Native, mobile, or full-stack web with shipped member-facing UI at scale. Comfortable reading/writing code and using that fluency to coach and set technical direction. Experiment-driven operator who thinks in hypotheses, sample sizes, and decision rules. Systems and UX thinker who understands how architecture and performance shape user experience. Inclusive team builder who fosters high-performing cultures.
