Omada Health is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a squad building member-facing systems. You will own the squad's delivery from prototype to production, including maintenance and on-call rotations. This is a hands-on role where you ship production code alongside your engineers every sprint on non-critical-path work, giving you firsthand experience with the friction your team faces.
You will own sprint shaping, prioritization, backlog grooming, and estimation—making the calls and being accountable for them. You partner closely with a Product Strategist who determines what the squad should build; you own whether it can be delivered, at what cost, and by when. You set the quality bar and operational standards for your squad.
Key responsibilities include: owning the squad's delivery and cycle time; shipping production code every sprint using the same workflows your team uses; partnering with your Product Strategist to maintain clear ownership boundaries; growing your engineers and providing developmental feedback; owning operational health including on-call rotations and post-incident analysis; escalating early with data-backed recommendations; and hiring the next generation of engineers.
You are a product engineering leader with strong opinions about the product you own. You understand the why behind its existence and own both the what and how. You are technically respected but don't need to be the strongest engineer on the squad. You have hands-on experience with AI-assisted development and a considered view on where it helps versus creates rework. Above all, you are enthusiastic about providing excellent care for members and building a high-performing engineering team.
Technologies used: Ruby on Rails, Python (Flask, FastAPI), React, native iOS (Swift, SwiftUI), native Android (Kotlin), PostgreSQL, GraphQL, AWS (RDS, SQS), Docker, Kubernetes, GitLab, Datadog, PagerDuty.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 6+ years in software engineering, including at least 2 years managing engineers, or equivalent experience leading delivery for a team you were accountable for
- Track record shipping mission-critical software to production and living with it afterwards; ability to own mistakes and turn them into improvements
- Experience owning prioritization and estimation for a team, including saying no and explaining why
- Experience giving direct developmental feedback and managing someone through underperformance with real support
- Currently or recently shipping production code in at least one layer of the stack (backend: Ruby, Python; web frontends: React; iOS; or Android) with enough range to follow conversations in other layers and review architecture decisions critically
- Comfort with expert-generalist team model where engineers ship across multiple layers; understanding of risks and opportunities this brings
- Hands-on experience directing AI agents through real-world production changes and a considered view on where they help versus produce rework
- Understanding of CI/CD, logging, monitoring, and telemetry at the level where you can assess whether your squad's operational story is sound
- Excellent written communication skills
