Tide is a fintech platform serving over 2 million SMEs globally with business banking, invoicing, and accounting solutions. The Manage Money team owns critical systems for money movement: internal transfers, direct debit mandates, standing orders, sweep rules, and balance notifications. These systems operate across the UK, India, and EU markets with different payment schemes and regulatory requirements.
As Engineering Manager, you will lead a team of 7 backend and mobile engineers distributed across Lithuania and Bulgaria. The core challenge is building systems where correctness and reliability are non-negotiable—direct debit mandates involve scheme rules and dispute handling; standing orders and sweep rules are time-based, rule-driven systems with zero margin for error.
Your responsibilities include: setting technical direction and engineering standards for the team; owning system reliability, SLOs, and on-call practices; partnering with product to ensure compliance across markets; growing engineers at all levels from early-career to senior; and aligning with other engineering managers on shared infrastructure.
You will get deep into the systems—mandate management, scheduling logic, sweep rules, and internal transfer flows—while pushing the team toward better observability, sharper SLOs, and cleaner architecture. This role requires someone who can balance hands-on technical credibility with people leadership, earning trust from a distributed team while maintaining high engineering standards in a mission-critical domain.
