As Engineering Manager for the Journeys team, you will lead engineers building the product and systems that enable brands to create, publish, and run automated, event-driven customer communications. Your team owns both the visual journey-building experience and the distributed workflow platform that powers it. Key responsibilities include: - Leading the Journeys team's roadmap, delivery, and technical direction - Partnering with Product, Design, implementation teams, and engineering peers to refine requirements, prioritize investment, and resolve dependencies - Improving reliability, observability, performance, and scale of customer-facing journey execution - Building a high-performing team through hiring, coaching, feedback, and clear growth opportunities - Establishing operating rhythms, delivery plans, and stakeholder communication; surfacing risks early and removing blockers - Balancing immediate customer needs with durable, reusable platform capabilities Required expertise: - 2+ years managing software engineers; 7+ years professional software engineering experience - Strong technical foundation in distributed, event-driven systems, workflow orchestration, APIs, data modeling, and scalable customer-facing applications - Experience guiding architecture and delivery across user-facing products and high-volume backend systems - Proven ability to partner cross-functionally and deliver complex initiatives - Experience leading operationally mature services with incident response, on-call health, observability, and technical-debt reduction - Thoughtful people leadership: hiring, coaching, performance management, and inclusive team culture - Clear, proactive communication with strong delivery and stakeholder management Tech stack: Java/Spring Boot microservices, React/TypeScript/GraphQL, PostgreSQL/DynamoDB/S3, Apache Pulsar, gRPC, Kubernetes on AWS EKS, Istio, Terraform, Helm, Datadog.
