Salary: USD 180,000 - 243,000 / annual
Adyen is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a new team within the Issuing organization, which enables businesses to monetize spend through fast, secure, and efficient payment solutions via digital and physical card issuance.
In this role, you will drive the technical roadmap for establishing an issuing program construct that supports expansion of Adyen's issued card product suite. You'll translate ambitious business goals into world-class technical reality while building and shaping a new engineering team from the ground up.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing and executing the technical roadmap for the issuing program, ensuring it scales to support continued product expansion
- Building a high-performing engineering team, including hiring and fostering a best-in-class engineering culture
- Serving as technical authority and domain expert for the banking product, challenging and driving technical design decisions to maintain an exceptionally high technical bar
- Coaching, mentoring, and managing continuous performance and professional development of engineers
- Working closely with Product Managers to manage project timelines, address technical debt, and enforce best engineering practices
- Maintaining a strong product mindset, understanding client needs, banking industry dynamics, and market landscape
- Collaborating across engineering, product, commercial, and operations to deliver a best-in-class issuing product
You should have 2+ years of people management experience with a proven ability to build and coach high-performance engineering teams. Domain expertise in FinTech, particularly issuing and/or banking, is preferred, or alternatively, experience managing technical delivery of a highly critical, global product at scale. You possess deep technical knowledge of building and scaling API-based financial services, with comfort discussing and challenging decisions made by senior engineers. Your tech stack includes Java, Postgres, Kafka, RabbitMQ, Redis, and Elastic.
Strong execution skills, effective communication, stakeholder management, and proven ability to lead complex projects involving multiple teams and external partners (such as bank rails and third-party vendors like Zelle and Plaid) are essential. You deeply care about customer experience and take pride in delivering delightful solutions.
