Pilot is a fintech/accounting software company that has spent ten years building internal bookkeeping software and is now packaging it as Meridian for accounting firms. We're seeking an Engineering Manager for the Infrastructure team, which owns core infrastructure, developer experience, design systems, frontend infrastructure, and security. You will lead a remote team of talented engineers distributed across the United States. Key responsibilities include: - Lead and mentor a team of engineers who ship code and solve complex infrastructure problems - Develop your team members' careers by assigning projects tailored to their skills, personalities, and goals - Create a collaborative, inclusive team environment with continuous feedback and recognition - Prioritize technical and resourcing challenges within the broader Engineering organization - Drive continuous improvement in code quality, architecture, and processes - Grow the team thoughtfully by identifying skill gaps and building a diverse pipeline - Maintain a prioritized backlog and establish short- and long-term goals with engineers and stakeholders - Build relationships across Engineering, Operations, and other relevant teams - Shape development practices across Pilot (technology choices, best practices, tech stack evolution) - Think strategically about medium- to long-term scaling as Pilot accelerates growth Our tech stack: Python 3.13 backend, JavaScript/TypeScript/Vue.js frontend, Terraform for infrastructure-as-code, Docker containers on ECS, AWS CodeDeploy for deployments, Honeycomb for monitoring, and Postgres for databases. Requirements: At least 2 years in an official managerial role, including 1+ year managing a remote team. You should demonstrate experience with performance management, team growth and hiring, technical execution with dependencies, diagnosing and solving team dynamics issues, fostering inclusion in diverse teams, relationship building, and technical design/strategy. While minimal coding is expected, a strong technical background is essential to participate in design discussions and represent your team's technology.
