Mistral is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead the Inference API team. This is a highly visible role responsible for building and scaling a new team dedicated to evolving Mistral's inference APIs into a state-of-the-art inference stack.
In this position, you will translate product vision into technical reality while collaborating closely with Product, Design, and cross-functional stakeholders. You'll own the full software development lifecycle—from architecture and design through deployment—ensuring applications are performant, stable, and responsive. Key responsibilities include removing obstacles for your team, upholding high code quality standards through reviews and automation, planning projects with clear roadmaps and deadlines, and supporting team growth through hiring, onboarding, and mentorship.
You'll help ship enterprise-level features, align on evolving API formats, and improve specific modalities such as audio and OCR. The role offers the opportunity to shape how Mistral's technology is adopted globally and unlock significant business opportunities.
Required qualifications include proven experience building and managing engineering teams, proficiency in Python and at least one web framework (FastAPI, Django, or Flask), experience with large-scale distributed systems, and strong cross-functional collaboration skills. You should have knowledge of databases, caching mechanisms, and messaging systems, along with strong problem-solving abilities and an ownership mindset. Excellent communication skills and a low-ego, team-first attitude are essential.
