Salary: USD 212,000 - 265,000 / annual

Airbnb is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Insights Platform on the Guest & Host team. This platform delivers personalized guidance to hosts about improving earnings, quality, and listings across email, push notifications, in-product dashboards, and conversational agents. You will lead a team of senior and staff engineers spanning data engineering, machine learning, and backend systems. The platform is evolving from batch to real-time processing and from rules-based to model-driven approaches, with AI-assisted insight creation and personalization at its core. You'll partner closely with product, design, and data science teams, as well as cross-functional teams across Airbnb that depend on the platform. Key responsibilities include: - Define and drive long-term technical strategy and architecture with senior leaders - Partner with Product, Design, and Data Science leaders on platform strategy, including insight ranking, personalization, and measurement - Lead the team in building reliable, performant, and scalable systems for insight creation, delivery, and measurement - Provide critical input on team roadmap and technical direction - Influence stakeholders to adopt team goals and roadmaps - Identify improvement areas and drive best practices - Engage in hands-on development, including design and code reviews - Mentor and support the career growth of individual contributors Requirements: - 10+ years of relevant experience in tech; 5+ years as an Engineering Manager with ownership of large-scale software systems - Strong product judgment grounded in data; ability to spot patterns and translate them into product and platform decisions - Track record of setting and maintaining multi-year technical direction on live, business-critical platforms, including leading major re-architectures (e.g., batch to real-time, rules-based to model-driven) while delivering - Depth in backend, data, or ML platforms; understanding of distributed systems, data pipelines, and real-time/streaming architectures - Experience applying ML and LLMs in production for personalization and ranking, with proven impact through experimentation and measurement - Experience managing and growing senior and staff engineers; ability to create environments where they own initiatives end-to-end - Strong communication and influence with technical and non-technical partners; demonstrated ability to align multiple teams on shared platform approaches - Proven track record fostering a culture of diversity and belonging
