Sentry is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Growth team (internally called "Value Discovery") and expand the product-led business by helping customers discover and maximize value from the platform. Sentry is trusted by 200,000+ organizations as the application monitoring standard and is building its AI-native future.
You will lead a team of engineers, set priorities, and own the metrics your team moves. This is a new role where you'll define and execute the roadmap in partnership with design and data teams.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading work across Sentry's self-serve funnel (signup, onboarding, first-run activation, trial/upgrade paths, pricing/billing) primarily in Python/Django and TypeScript/React
- Evolving experimentation foundations in partnership with the Data team, including flagging, instrumentation, and readouts
- Running a disciplined experimentation loop where hypotheses are debated before implementation
- Balancing conversion and activation metrics alongside churn, support volume, and 90-day retention, reporting all results transparently
- Growing engineers on your team, including developing the skill of executing excellent work on features that may be deleted
Sentry's approach to growth is rooted in customer value and developer empathy, not conversion pressure. The company never surprises developers with unexpected charges or pushes unnecessary features. When there's a tradeoff between customer benefit and business benefit, the customer wins.
You'll collaborate closely with Product, BizOps, Data, Design, and GTM teams to identify moments in a developer's workflow where Sentry can deliver more value, make that value easier to find, and validate your approach with data.
Qualifications:
- 3+ years managing engineers, including ownership of a metric-driven team, with a strong engineering background
- Technical credibility with senior engineers; EMs engage substantively in architecture and technical decisions and pass a technical assessment at a senior IC bar
- Strong product sense to identify where changes create the most value, not just where metrics move
- Experience helping users get the most out of complex products
- Working fluency with experimentation frameworks, feature flags, A/B testing, and analytics instrumentation
- Ability to talk credibly with users about their workflows, tooling, and pain points, with genuine opinions about developer tools
- Bonus: experience in growth at a developer tools company, building experimentation infrastructure from a low starting point, or running experiments at high volumes where statistical significance wasn't guaranteed
